Custodes hominum psallimus Angelos / We Sing of Guardians

The Holy Guardian Angels, nihil, Any/None Vespers
Translated 2021.

Custodes hominum psallimus Angelos,
naturae fragili quos Pater addidit
caelestis comites, insidiantibus
ne succumberet hostibus.

Nam, quod corruerit proditor angelus,
concessis merito pulsus honoribus,
ardens invidia, pellere nititur
quos caelo Deus advocat.

Huc, custos, igitur pervigil advola,
avertens patria de tibi credita
tam morbos animi, quam requiescere
quidquid non sinit incolas.

Sanctae sit Triadi laus pia iugiter,
cuius perpetuo numine machina
triplex haec regitur, cuius in omnia
regnat gloria saecula. Amen.

We sing of guardians, angels protecting us,
Whom God the Father gave, companions heaven-sent,
To make weak nature strong, lest it succumb to foes,
Fallen angels who lie in wait.

The traitor angel fell, and paid for his offense,
His honors rightly lost, from heaven driven out,
Burning with envy now, he strives to drive away
All whom God calls to life on high.

Fly hence, oh angel, fly! O watchful guardian,
Come, from your native land, With power turn aside
All sickness of the soul, all deadly enemies
Who will not leave your friends in peace.

O holy Trinity, to you be endless praise,
By whose eternal might the threefold world is ruled
May all things praise your Name, through earth and sea and sky,
God, whose glory forever reigns. Amen.
