Aeterna caeli gloria,
beata spes mortalium,
celsi Parentis Unice
castaeque proles Virginis.
Da dexteram surgentibus,
exsurgat et mens sobria
flagrans et in laudem Dei
grates rependat debitas.
Ortus refulget lucifer
ipsamque lucem nuntiat,
cadit caligo noctium,
lux sancta nos illuminet,
Manensque nostris sensibus
noctem repellat saeculi
omnique fine temporis
purgata servet pectora.
Quaesita iam primum fides
radicet altis sensibus,
secunda spes congaudeat;
tunc maior exstat caritas.
Sit, Christe, rex piissime,
tibi Patrique gloria
cum Spiritu Paraclito,
in sempiterna saecula. Amen.
Eternal Glory of the sky,
Blest Hope of sinners born to die,
The Father’s sole begotten One,
The Virgin Mother’s only Son:
Now, as we rise, extend your hand,
And make our spirit sober stand:
A mind that for your praises burns
And proper thanks to you returns.
The morning star, arising bright,
Announces to the world your light;
As nightly shadows fade and fall,
Let holy light shine on us all.
May light within in our senses dwell,
The darkness of the world expel;
Our hearts redeemed and pure to stay,
Preserved from any close of day.
Now, first of all, let faith impress
Deep roots within our consciousness,
Then hope rejoice in second place,
Then charity, your greatest grace.
To you, O Christ, most kindly King,
And to the Father praise we sing;
The Spirit Paraclete we praise
For ever and for endless days. Amen.
